You just got engaged. You stare at your ring. You take selfies with your soon-to-be husband (wow, that sounds weird, right?). Engagement is going to be so fun and relaxing… and then the planning stage hits. You have to find a venue, a dress, a photographer (ahem, I know one). You need to ask your bridal party to stand with you, pick out their dresses and tuxes, the list goes on and on. I know, I’ve been there. One thing that can be extremely helpful in planning your wedding is attending a bridal show in your area. Are you sick of running around from town to town meeting with people? Well, run no more, they are all in one place at a bridal show.
With all that being said, there is a bridal show in Peoria, IL next Sunday, January 15th, Weddings Unveiled from 11:00pm – 3:00pm and yours truly will be there, waiting to meet you, see your sparkly ring, and talk all things wedding. Register here if you haven’t already!
Since the show is coming up and most brides have never been to a bridal show, I thought I would give you 6 tips to attending a bridal show over the next week. While yes it’s true, all the vendors are in the same place, there are lots of them, and lots of flyers being handed at you and samples given to you. How do you make sure that you are making best use of your time and finding the vendors that you really want to talk to at the bridal show?
Tip #1 – Make a Plan
I think the main reason that brides get overwhelmed at bridal shows is because there is just so much to look at and see. Be realistic, you aren’t going to book everything for your entire wedding in just one afternoon, so make a plan.
First, decide which types of vendors you are going to be looking for. Do you already have your florist, then don’t go to floral booths. Your venue is booked? Why would you stop there? Not only is this going to optimize your time so that you can see everyone you want to see, but you aren’t going to be confusing yourself. Example: You booked a florist, but say you saw another talented florist at the show. You already put money down with the first florist. Well, trust your gut! You loved the first florist enough to book with them. You will not be missing out on anything if you just skip this vendor type at the show. A good all around wedding tip…if you’ve already committed to something, move on, you will thank yourself later.
So, you’ve decided what types of vendors you want to look for, now take a look at who is attending the bridal show. Maybe you really would like to a photographer and you have a few names in mind. Look at the map and see where they are located so you have a game plan to get there to them. But keep in mind that there may be some really talented photographers that you meet and love at the show, so keep your options open.
That’s it! You’ve made a plan! Make it as elaborate or as simple as you would like. Mine would probably be in list mode with colored sharpies and washi tape… but good old pencil and paper work or the notes in your phone.
